Salesforce Is Too Expensive: Cheaper Alternatives That Actually Fit

Let's say the quiet part out loud: for most small and mid-size businesses, Salesforce is a ripoff. Not because it's bad software - because you're paying enterprise prices for a fraction of what you actually use, and the bill climbs every time you hire.

Where the money actually goes

Per-user, per-month pricing that punishes growth. Tiers that gate the features you assumed were included. Add-ons, "managed packages," and a paid admin or consultant for changes that should take five minutes. After years of this, you own nothing and you're more locked in than ever.

What are your alternatives?

  • Cheaper SaaS CRMs (HubSpot, Zoho, Pipedrive) - fine if your process is standard and you don't mind a meter that still grows with your team.
  • A custom CRM you control - built on a proven framework like DevExpress XAF or mature open-source tools, shaped to exactly how you work, with no per-seat tax.

For a lot of businesses, the second option is the one nobody told them was on the table - and it's often cheaper over a few years than the subscription they're trying to escape.

Why a custom CRM usually wins

It fits your real workflow instead of forcing you into someone else's. Adding your tenth or fiftieth user doesn't change the price. And the money you stop sending Salesforce frequently pays for the build itself within a couple of years.

Curious what walking away would actually look like? Here's how I get businesses off Salesforce, or just tell me what you're paying and I'll show you the math.
